The SMARTIES way to throw a kids party

Throwing a children’s birthday bash may seem like a daunting, money-draining prospect but with a little imagination and creativity it’s easy to plan a party that’ll be the talk of the playground!

1
Establish the venue

For some it’s convenient to have the celebration at home, for others with less space it’s easier to go elsewhere like the local hall. Swimming, ice skating or bowling are ideal for keeping kids entertained without them coming to your house.

A real smarty would...

...ask your child for an idea of numbers before setting anything in stone.

2
Choose the theme

Devise a good theme and make it fancy dress. Remember: the aim of the game is to keep the kids amused so pick something relevant and fun!

A real smarty would...

...choose a theme like Superheroes, ‘what I want to be when I grow up’, cartoon characters - and have a prize for the best-dressed child.

3
Decide whos coming

With hoards of youngsters tearing around your house it’s best to not go over the top! Decide what’s realistic then ask your child to make a list of their best friends – and try and stick to it. If the party’s elsewhere there’s room for more but remember you might need more adult supervision.

A real smarty would...

...tie the invitations in with the theme!

4
Design the decorations

Balloons, banners, streamers - nothing’s too over the top for a kid’s party! Match the decorations to the theme, but remember they don’t have to break the bank - it’s amazing what you can do with foil and tissue paper! Table decorations like blowers, party hats and snazzy napkins and plates are also a good way to jazz up the room.

A real smarty would...

...design place-settings that double up as a colouring-in sheets by drawing an outline then photocopying it!

5
Bake the cake

There are countless kids’ party cakes available to buy... or better still bake and decorate your own. Again, it’s an ideal opportunity to tie it in with the theme.

A real smarty would...

...use SMARTIES to decorate the cake! With so many colours and no artificial colourings, it’s easy to get the look to match your theme.
